Abstracting the essence of online meetings in digital watercolor and ink blots, A Rectangle of Friends came to life when I realized I missed my coworkers during a shelter at home alone vacation. As the piece developed I wanted it to envelope things which have permeated life during the pandemic; social distance, racial justice, the need to express and share our essence, a composition of pieces forming a whole, a circle of friends adapting.
When asked what I "do", I generally answer' "Yes". I have worked professionally in pencil, pen, paint than 40 years and in digital media almost as long. Change is important to me as it lays the ground for play and exploring which is a vital part of everything I do. An illustrator at heart, whether my work is an abstract, figurative, mural or a cartoon, I tend to tell stories with my art. Sometimes the story is about what is shown, other times it is about the the media and how it is made.
