All through life we will set aside toys and later tools that we enjoyed. If we have learned from them we will grow, and they will provide the support and energy we need to move on and enjoy new things. This painting is loosely based on one of a few by Norman Rockwell which did not include a human being. The gardener is present in the tools and gloves. Rockwell's features a harvest of blooms. New Horizons is about new life.
When asked what I "do", I generally answer' "Yes". I have worked professionally in pencil, pen, paint than 40 years and in digital media almost as long. Change is important to me as it lays the ground for play and exploring which is a vital part of everything I do. An illustrator at heart, whether my work is an abstract, figurative, mural or a cartoon, I tend to tell stories with my art. Sometimes the story is about what is shown, other times it is about the the media and how it is made.
